South Dakota Department of Transportation

SECOG assists its members in applying for grants from the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SD DOT). Transportation funding in which SECOG regularly applies on behalf of its members includes, but is not limited to:

  • Economic Development Grants (Industrial Park, Agri-Business, & Community Access)
  • Bridge Improvement Grants
  • Transportation Alternatives Program
Application deadlines for some of the funding sources are listed below:

 Photo of grain elevator. DOT Agri-Business Grants (AG). Grants apply to construction of roads meeting minimum program criteria and serving as primary access to an agriculture related business. Grant amounts are limited to $600,000. State provides 80% of the project cost on a reimbursement basis. Applications due April 15, July 15, and October 15. State funds to be used for the construction of reconstruction of major streets in towns with a population of $5,000 or less. Major streets include Main Street, the road to the elevator, schools, hospital, etc. Grant provides 80% of the construction costs of the project, not including engineering or utility work. Amounts limited to $600,000. Photo includes SDDOT logo and SECOG logo.

Grant to assist cities and towns that have a new industry and need new roads providing access to an industrial park. Grant amounts limited to $500,000. SDDOT provides 80% of the project construction costs on a reimbursement basis. Applications due on April 15, July 15, and October 15.
